Even if you feel unqualified

Have you ever noticed how God works through ordinary people to do extraordinary things? We may not think of people like Moses, Esther, or the apostle Paul as ordinary, but we’re only looking at them through the lens of what they accomplished. Did they consider themselves qualified for the heroic work that God had for them? Probably not. Yet, he used each one in a powerful way.
What set these people apart was how deeply they trusted God. They were ready to answer his call, even when it meant taking personal risks. Moses returned to Egypt having fled from there as a fugitive. Esther risked the death penalty by coming into the king’s presence uninvited. The apostle Paul… Well, you know all that he went through.
God worked with and through each one because they were faithful. Moses led Israel out of slavery in Egypt. Esther raised her voice to prevent the Jewish people from being massacred. Paul became a missionary to the Gentiles and penned much of the New Testament.
God doesn’t need a vast number of people to accomplish his plans. He calls a person here and a person there (often to their great surprise), and then suddenly, lives are changed and history is made. It’s what God has done over and over since Bible times, and he is still doing it today.
We may not all be called to adventures of epic proportions like modern-day Bible heroes, but God does promise unique opportunities for every single one of us as followers of Jesus.
We are his workmanship, created in [Messiah] Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)
Sometimes we get glimpses of how God connects the “good works” he has prepared for each of us into his greater story. I recently heard a report that I hope will encourage you as you face the unique opportunities that God brings your way.
Pastor Wyatt ministers in North Carolina. The church where he serves is not far from one of the beautiful beaches that attracts many people who are ready to retire from life in the big cities. When Pastor Wyatt met Andrew, a Jewish man who had relocated from New York, he wasn’t sure how to share the gospel in a culturally relevant way. He went online and found our So Be It! videos on YouTube.
Soon Wyatt was incorporating what he was learning from our videos into his conversations with Andrew. Long story short, Pastor Wyatt was able to lead Andrew to faith in Jesus! He may not have seen himself as the most likely candidate to witness to a Jewish New Yorker, but Pastor Wyatt responded faithfully to God’s call to bring the good news to people in the neighborhood.
By the way, I want to share thanks on behalf of Jeff and Elisha who cohost our So Be It! video outreach. We are so grateful God has brought us wonderful people like you who support the work that they and all the rest of us Jews for Jesus do. As we’ve seen with people like Pastor Wyatt who have a heart for reaching their Jewish neighbors, this work can become a help and a resource. I invite you to check out our media outreach So Be It! If it encourages you, please share it with your friends: SOBEIT32AD.
Isn’t it great to know that you don’t have to have a certain set of credentials to share the gospel with Jewish people (or anyone else) God might bring your way? Maybe you feel unqualified, inexperienced, or unsure where to start. If that’s you, you’re in good company. Paul wrote, “God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong” (1 Corinthians 1:27).
We may not live up to the world’s expectations of great influencers, and that’s okay. God’s power to change lives isn’t based on how impressive we are but how impressive he is. And the more we are impressed by Jesus, the easier it is to believe that he can use us.
May you be encouraged as you see God’s hand at work, not only in our ministry but in your own life. We are so grateful to walk alongside you in this sacred mission.
