The passion that fuels our work each day comes from knowing that countless Jewish people around the world still haven’t had the opportunity to truly encounter the gospel. Whether they lean secular and liberal or religious and conservative, our people have largely been resistant to the good news of Yeshua (Jesus).
But after more than 25 years in Jewish evangelism, I’ve seen a sudden shift toward openness in the last few years. And I am not alone. As I speak with missionaries and leaders engaged in Jewish evangelism around the world, I keep hearing the same testimony—this season has become one of the most fruitful periods in their entire ministries.
This feels remarkable, especially in light of the hardships of war and rising antisemitism that Israel and our Jewish people are currently facing. Yet in the midst of these challenges, we are seeing levels of spiritual hunger and openness to the message of Yeshua that we have never witnessed before.
Over the past few years, my wife and I have been frequenting a local Mediterranean-style restaurant. We got to know the Israeli owner, Shmuel,* and shared with him about our faith in Yeshua. We even had several Bible studies together. Like many Jewish people, he struggled to accept that one could believe in Jesus and still be Jewish.
A year ago, he seemed closed to the gospel. So, when I sat down at a table last week and heard Hebrew worship music playing in the background, I was surprised. I asked Shmuel about it, and he shared how in his search for hope, God opened his eyes to see that Yeshua is Messiah and Lord. Shmuel is just one of hundreds of Jewish men and women who have put their trust in the Lord over the past few years.
Many of us sense that we are seeing the first signs of something significant. There are growing numbers of Jewish people discovering Jesus—so much so that we are not yet prepared with all the resources needed to receive them!
We at Jews for Jesus describe it this way: The Nets Are Breaking.
This phrase comes from Luke 5:1–11, where Jesus calls his first disciples. After teaching the crowds along the Sea of Galilee, Jesus tells Simon Peter to go back out into deep water and let down the nets. When Peter obeys, the catch is so great that the nets begin to break (v. 6), and they must call other boats to come and help (v. 7).
We see growing openness to the gospel among Jewish people in Israel, the United States, and around the world—and God is preparing their hearts. We need to be ready for a miraculous catch!
That is why we’ve developed a five-year global vision that we are calling The Nets Are Breaking.
By the year 2030, our prayer and goal is that every Jewish person in the world will have
One thing is clear: no single person or organization can reach all the Jewish people in the world. We need partnerships and collaboration. We need more fishermen and more boats. We need more people who, like the first disciples, are willing to leave everything behind and follow Jesus. That is why we are working with ministries, church planters, and partners like you to pursue bold, Spirit-led goals. These include:
Please pray for us as we pursue The Nets Are Breaking and for God to draw many partners to fulfill this call. Pray for more workers who will boldly share the gospel with Jewish people around the world. And pray for God to continue to awaken spiritual hunger in our Jewish people, giving them open hearts to receive Yeshua, our Messiah.
