Divine Encounters
in Unexpected Places

Jesus sent his disciples out—and so we also go, not to stay comfortable but to step into the world with the message of Messiah.

The most unforgettable moments rarely come with scripts. They come in the most unexpected places you could imagine: detours, spontaneous interruptions, and even war zones.

Again and again, we’ve seen how God shows up on the way—preparing hearts, opening doors, and turning everyday moments into powerful opportunities. These moments are unplanned and unexpected, yet they’re filled with eternal significance. They remind us that ministry is not confined to Bible studies or planned outreaches; it happens in the middle of real life.

Yoel, our Jerusalem branch leader, shares this powerful story from his time in a bomb shelter.

“During a recent night of conflict in Israel, we gathered to worship. Two men who weren’t believers stood nearby, quietly observing. But as we sang, the atmosphere shifted.

“One began asking deep questions about faith. The other, with tears in his eyes, said he felt a powerful ‘energy’ during the worship. We gently told him, ‘That’s the Holy Spirit.’

In a place of fear, God brought peace.

“When he shared that he was Persian, another man—formerly a Muslim from Iran but now a believer—spoke with him in Farsi about how Yeshua changed his life.”

In a place of fear, God brought peace.

Even though our focus is on Jewish people, we love seeing God use our missionaries to share the hope of Messiah with people from all nations.

The days out in the field are full: travel, presentations, and deep spiritual conversations. But even in the busyness of those days, our missionaries often walk away in awe, having witnessed the power of God in moments they never expected.

Chaim Birnbaum, a missionary based in New York, shared this powerful moment while traveling through the Boston area:

“Stewart, one of our online missionaries, asked me to visit a couple nearby. The husband had just prayed with him to receive Yeshua and wanted to meet someone face-to-face.

“When I arrived, the husband shared his brokenness and shame: ‘I don’t deserve God’s love. I’ve failed my wife so many times. Yet, every time I came home fearing she’d left, I found her on her knees, praying for me.’

‘I don’t deserve God’s love.’

“He asked to pray with someone physically to receive Yeshua, so he and I prayed together. Afterward, I felt led to wash his feet. He resisted, saying they were dirty. I replied, ‘That’s the point—let Jesus wash you clean.’ Moved, he then washed his wife’s feet and said, ‘If the ocean weren’t so cold, I’d be baptized today!’”

Sometimes, a simple invitation opens the door to something much bigger. Canada Branch Leader Aden Friedman shared this story from Kelowna, British Columbia:

“After speaking at a church, about 20 people from one extended family came to the book table. They told me I was the first Jewish believer they’d met outside their family. We connected so deeply that I offered to see them again.

“Two weeks later, they invited me to a beautiful Shabbat dinner with their family of over 30 people at a nearby vineyard. Many of the attending young adults expressed interest in serving with Jews for Jesus. Since then, this family has personally rallied 13 local churches to support the Jewish community in Kelowna. We’re now working with them to launch monthly Shabbat dinners to build community and reach others.”

Thank you for making these unexpected moments possible. Your prayers and generosity help prepare our missionaries for the spontaneous, unforgettable moments where God is already moving—on the way. Please continue to pray for all who have been touched through these unplanned encounters, that their faith would deepen. Pray also that many more Jewish people would come to know their Messiah through future encounters like these.

There’s more to see and pray for!
