After passing out some broadsides in Los Angeles , California , I was approached by Simon.

"Excuse me," he said. "You are Jewish?"

"Yes," I replied. "Are you?"

It turned out he was not only Jewish, but had been born in Israel . As we discussed spiritual matters, I was surprised to see how open and comfortable he was! Even when we talked over a roast beef sandwich in a Jewish deli, he had no qualms about being seen with someone wearing a "JEWS FOR JESUS" T-shirt!

Though Simon didn’t accept Jesus into his life at this time, he did say, "I believe Jesus was the Messiah, but I don’t believe He was God. " For a Jew raised in an Orthodox family in Israel , this was still quite a statement!
