Like father, like son” is a familiar expression. It describes the natural phenomenon of children behaving in similar fashion to their parents. We all learn from our fathers, and learned behavior applies not only to the physical realm, but to the spiritual realm as well.
Jesus was one with the Father, sharing all spiritual truths with him, but he had to learn the carpentry trade from Joseph, his earthly foster father. When we are born into God’s family through faith in Jesus, we also must learn the “building business.” That is the task to which God calls us as his children—the business of building the Body of Christ.
