We’re praising God for twelve new brothers and sisters in Christ in Odessa! Here’s what happened.

Earlier this month, outreach worker Gena Gelman led our Odessa staff and volunteers on a four-day street outreach on Purim. During one of those days, 11 volunteers from New Jerusalem Congregation came to help! (New Jerusalem is the Messianic congregation our Odessa leader, Leonid Vasserman, started four years ago, and still pastors.)

Our staff and volunteers distributed 20,235 Purim broadsides, complete with invitations to holiday services for that Friday and Saturday night. Nineteen Jewish seekers gave us their contact information and so did two Gentile seekers.

In addition to the invitations handed out on the streets, the team sent nearly 350 SMS-invitations to Jewish people who had given us their cell phone numbers.

Friday night came and 44 people attended our Jews for Jesus Friday night Shabbat service, including four Gentile visitors who prayed to receive Jesus.

The following night, New Jerusalem also had a special holiday service for Purim. 119 people attended, about half of whom were visitors. Eight people prayed to receive the Lord, four Jewish and four Gentile!

It’s wonderful to have such great support from the New Jerusalem Congregation. We are also so grateful for our friends in the Finnish Lutheran Overseas Mission (FLOM), who donated the funds for the campaign literature as well as for the holiday refreshments at both holiday services. They have been great co-laborers with us for many years.

Please pray for the twelve new disciples of Jesus in Odessa to grow in their faith!
