Thanks for praying for our Thanksgiving outreaches and “Black Friday” sorties (tract-passing events). As you can see, both shoppers and Jews for Jesus evangelists were braving some cold temps:
Branch leader Alan Bond (pictured above in blue knit cap) reports from Chicago: “After our warmest Thanksgiving in years, with temperatures climbing into the 60’s; the wind turned cold and temperatures dropped. By ‘Black Friday’ and Saturday, five staff and twenty volunteers were greeting the crowds around State Street and the Magnificent Mile shopping areas. This was a record number of volunteers for the beginning of our ‘Christmas push’ (multiple sorties between Thanksgiving and Christmas) and weekend temperatures never made it out of the 30’s.
“We’ve given out 7,575 tracts so far. Most got ‘Christmas is a Jewish holiday.’ Pray for fruitful encounters, warmth and encouragement.
“In a bizarre twist, we got a call from a Reform synagogue executive director—not in response to our broadsides nor in response to anyone witnessing in his congregation. Oddly enough, a strange prank caller has been phoning through their directory anonymously, entertaining himself at their expense with small talk—in some cases, mentioning Jews for Jesus handing out tracts around Watertower Place (an upscale shopping mall in Chicago). I explained that is not how we operate, and we don’t know who might be making the calls, but there was a good feeling from the joint effort of trying to solve a problem together.”
