In Volume 9:5753 of this Newsletter we defined the word cult” and defended Jews for Jesus from that false designation by pointing out among other things, we do not live communally, as cults often do, but in individual homes. Nevertheless, we do not believe—nor was it our intention to imply—that all those who live communally are cultists.
On the contrary, one example of sound, beneficial communal living is the Israeli kibbutz. And more to the point, some of the most faithful servants of God, such as the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary, the Bruderhof Christian communities and Bethany Fellowship of Minneapolis, have chosen to live communally. It takes a special calling to live in community with others, and we commend those dedicated Christians who find that this is the best way for them to serve.
