  • is the word used in nearly every case in the NT to speak of God’s relationship with man.
  • is an “electing love,” a love you choose to do (not always feel like doing).
  • love for God and love for one’s neighbor derive from God’s own love.
  • when I am ‘in Christ’…this love has taken hold of me and is making me…into a loving person.

The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia (pp. 1932 & 33):

  • a clear determination of will and judgment.
  • whatever love there is in man…has its source in God.
