Guns N’ Roses and the Gospel

Three Moody students and a professor joined our Israel team for six weeks as part of their summer internship program. Among other things, they took part in our evangelistic outreach at a Guns N’ Roses concert.

The crowd was mostly upbeat as the team greeted them with smiles and a gospel-themed postcard titled “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” (a play on a famous rock hit song).

Here’s what a couple of the students said about it:

“I came into the experience with mixed expectations; I didn’t know how exactly we would be evangelizing, or how we would be received. But after spending a few hours handing out postcards, I was encouraged by the fact that many, many people read the postcard and were presented with life, death and the chance to believe in Yeshua (Jesus). Despite my initial discomfort, I was reminded of the value of this work when I looked down at my dirty, sandaled feet. ‘How blessed on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news…’ (Isaiah 52:7)”

“As an introvert by nature, I had never handed out tracts before, and I was quite shy at first. As I stood to the side of the busy pathway, I looked out over the sea of bobbing heads and reminded myself of what my goal was—to tell Jewish people about Yeshua. I was not handing out tracts for my own benefit; I was handing out tracts because I know how much Yeshua has transformed my life and I want other people to experience that as well. With that mindset and goal, handing out tracts was a joy. God showed me through this experience what ‘not being ashamed of the gospel’ looked like for me.”

What a privilege to partner with these young adults as they experience knowing and trusting God in new ways! We loved having them join us to invite so many secular Israelis to consider what it would be like to truly know and trust God, too.
