Shining God’s Light in Odessa

Galina Bogomolova (pictured above) reported, “Last year as Hanukkah week was drawing to a close, we began handing out our ‘Christmas is a Jewish Holiday’* broadside. Usually this tract causes quite a reaction.

“I offered out a tract to a Jewish couple. ‘Definitely not!’ they said, as they hurried on, loaded down with holiday packages. I felt sad. Suddenly I saw a woman without any packages. I began a conversation with her and learned that she is Jewish. Velta told me her friend had been inviting her to our Jews for Jesus Sabbath meetings for a long time. She gave me her contact information.

“Imagine my joy when I saw Velta at our Hanukkah service! Oleg Shaikevich, a Messianic Jewish pastor from a small Baptist church, gave the message that night. When he called people to repent near the end of the service, Velta came forward and received Yeshua into her heart. Thank you to the One who was born king of the Jews! He directed me to begin a conversation with Velta at just the right time.”

Igor Barbanel (pictured below), who leads our work throughout Russia and Ukraine, added: “God cultivates fruit where we do not expect. My wife, Galina, and I tried to visit a Jewish man, Alexander. He was not home, so we spoke instead with his wife, Diana, who is not Jewish. I shared the gospel message with her and invited her to our Hanukkah service.

“God really blessed the Hanukkah service, which was attended by 74 people. When Pastor Oleg called people to repent, six people raised their hands to receive Yeshua. At the end of the service I asked those who confessed their faith in Jesus to follow me. I congratulated them on their new life, and wrote down their contact information so we could stay in touch. As I wrote down their names, suddenly I heard a familiar name—Alexander! His wife had passed on to him my invitation to the Hanukkah service! Please pray for his spiritual growth.”

*This is one of our earliest broadside tracts, written by Moishe Rosen and still in use. See and share it here (along with more evangelistic literature for the holidays).
