There’s a 68-year old man living in France with an artificial heart. According to Dr. Carpentier, the artificial heart’s inventor, the patient recovered sufficiently to go home from the hospital and is “pedaling like crazy” on a stationary bicycle.

The man had congestive heart failure and received the implant in August. He was discharged from the University of Nantes hospital this month to resume a normal life.

With this new technology, heart transplants have been bumped up a notch giving people hope for health and a prolonged life.
It’s too soon to tell if this patient will live to a ripe old age. The inventor hopes so. As does the patient.  And if this procedure is successful, both doctor and patient will go down in medical history.

The heart is already a part of bible history.  The term appears over 1,000 times in the Scriptures! It denotes the hidden center of a person’s emotional, mental and moral activity. Does a heart made of metal, plastics and electronics, lose its hidden core? Not at all.

But whether our heart is flesh or man-made, it contains a fatal flaw:

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” – Jeremiah 17:9

We’re born into this world with sin that has tainted our very core and we need to be rescued by a power greater than ourselves. Our inventor, God himself, saw the trouble we are in and provided a solution to our heart problem—Yeshua, God’s Messiah. Listen to what God says:

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 36:29 NKJV

Just like the inventor of the artificial heart put a device into his patient, God will reach into your life and give you a new heart if you ask him. The new heart comes wrapped up in the Person of his Son Yeshua, who came and died on the cross to pay the price for your sins. Won’t you ask him today to renew you?
