How to Have Hope When Everything is Falling Apart
Have you had days when you feel despairing and hopeless?
You wallow in self-pity accompanied by great heaving sobs? And to top things off, you know those thoughts don’t honor the character of God, which makes you feel even more wretched.
Does God still love you in times like these?
Did God love David, Elijah, Jeremiah, and the other luminaries of the Hebrew Scriptures who poured out their feelings in times of crisis and suffering?
Some, like Job, even took God to task!
The answer is a resounding YES! He does love you.
You know what? Believers in Jesus (Y’shua) are human, too.
If you read the Torah or the Psalms you’ll notice every human emotion is recorded there.
“My heart is severely pained within me,
And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
And horror has overwhelmed me.”
(Psalm 55:4-5 NKJV)
There isn’t a human emotion that isn’t recorded in Scripture for us. And aren’t we glad.
God isn’t turned off or shocked by our raw feelings.
“Then Joseph fell on his father’s face and wept over him, and kissed him.”
(Genesis 50:1 NKJV)
God loves us when we’re weeping or when we’re dancing.
He experienced the gamut of human emotions in the person of his Son.
Jesus suffered, cried, got angry, but, unlike us, he did it perfectly, and without sin.
And that perfect record God gives to you!
“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
(Hebrews 4:15-16 NLT)
If you haven’t made that connection to Jesus, why not do it now? He is the mediator that brings you to God, the perfect lamb that took away your sins, so you could receive God’s life, love and comfort.
So no matter how you express your feelings when the going gets rough, remember to run the one who is your sympathetic High Priest —Jesus. Tell him how you feel, and he will listen and give you comfort and peace. Really.
