A Royal Heir
"A King Is Born!" screamed the headline in the British newspaper yesterday. Prince William and his wife, Kate have a new son. Today they named the baby George Alexander Louis. He will be called His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. This child is the third in line to the British throne. Apparently all of Britain is celebrating the arrival of this new member of the monarchy.
In contrast, another king was born a long time ago in very different circumstances. There was no fanfare at his arrival. The only people in the know were some lowly shepherds out in the fields at night and the animals in a barn he shared space with. There was no media waiting to catch a glimpse of him nor was there a huddle of excited relatives around him. The only people with him were his mother and stepfather. And when Emperor Caesar Augustus got wind of his birth, the orders went out to kill him.
While we don’t know what kind of person Prince George will turn out to be, we do know the kind of person this other baby became.
According to the Scriptures, that baby was Yeshua (Jesus), God’s promised Messiah who came to take away the sin of the world.
"For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this shall be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." Luke 2: 11-12
While we rejoice with all England at the birth of Prince George, we declare that the only king of note is the Lord Jesus Christ. And by placing your faith in him as Messiah, you become a royal heir of his kingdom.
Are you willing to be his royal subject?
