Bio & Testimony

I currently serve as Senior Researcher at the Jews for Jesus headquarters in San Francisco. According to David Brickner, the Jews for Jesus executive director, that means I'm supposed to "know things"! I actually edit our publication Havurah which is written to meet the needs of Jewish believers in Jesus. I write frequently for our other publications, help our staff with their research needs, and have authored the books Christ in the Sabbath and The Messianic Movement: A Field Guide for Evangelical Christians. I also co-authored our book Christ in the Feast of Pentecost with David Brickner.

A bit about my background: I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, in a Reform Jewish home, and came to faith in Jesus at Syracuse University in 1973. Always wanting to learn more, I received a M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1978 and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies and Hermeneutics from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1993. Between those times, I served as a missionary at our Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Boston branches. In the late 70s and early 80s I played piano for The Liberated Wailin Wall, our music team at the time. I love to read and I've posted some of my book reviews on Goodreads.com. I'm a fan of Bob Dylan and Elton John, and try to keep up with the New York Times on my newsreader, which I've discovered is a losing battle. You can connect with me at [email protected]

Prayer and Support

Thanks for being willing to pray! As senior researcher, I write, edit, and engage in a variety of creative projects. Please pray for:
• A book I completed, now published by Moody Press, entitled Christ in the Sabbath. Pray that it will receive circulation and be of help to those who want to know about how Jesus fulfills the Sabbath by providing his followers with true rest.
• Another book I am writing on the topic of Jewish core values and the New Testament. The primary audience are Jewish people, in order to show that the New Testament is indeed a Jewish book that resonates with modern Jewish concerns. But I hope that Christians Jewish or not will also find it helpful in conversations with Jewish friends or just for their own enrichment.
• I edit our quarterly publication Havurah, which addresses the special concerns of Jewish believers in Jesus. Please pray that it will minister to those who read it. If you know of any Jewish people who are believers in Jesus and aren't connected with us, send me their contact info via email. I'll see that they receive Havurah and connect up.
