Two Epic Events Converge in Berlin

History is about to be made this summer.

It may not take the world by storm but it should.

The Maccabi Games, known as the Jewish Olympics, will be hosted in Berlin.

Berlin – that’s radical!

It’s the first time since World War II that Jewish athletes from all over Europe will compete on soil once dominated by the German Reich.

It’s right up there with Jewish people on the streets of Berlin proclaiming Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) to Germans.

It’s epic.

Nearly 2,000 Jewish athletes between the ages of 18-35, from 36 countries all over Europe, will descend on the city July 27-August 5 to compete for medals.

There will be the traditional sporting events like swimming and basketball, but also more cerebral games like bridge, chess, dressage, fencing and golf.

This is crazy!

Jewish Olympics and Germany don’t go together.

Jews for Jesus proclaiming Messiah in Berlin don’t go together either.

But they do.

There’s something profoundly symbolic about both events converging and for that reason we Jews for Jesus are there. You’ll be able to spot us on the streets in our T-shirts talking with Berliners and others about Jesus the Messiah. We want to tell everyone that Yeshua is for them.

God himself told Yeshua, “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” – Isaiah 49:6 ESV

We’ll be telling everyone who will listen that Jesus left heaven and came to earth to die on the cross in their place, bearing their punishment, absorbing the fullness of divine justice for them.

That without him, there is no forgiveness of sins, and no hope of heaven, but with him, there is reconciliation and restoration to God now and forever.

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” – John 3:17 ESV

Maybe a few Germans and Jewish athletes will recognize that this message is even more radical than the Maccabi games taking place in Berlin. We hope so.

After all, a medal only lasts so long. Knowing Jesus and having peace with God through him surpass any earthly reward.
