Christmas Is a Jewish Holiday(or at least it should be)

Written by: Moishe Rosen

If Christmas isn't exactly a Jewish holiday -- then it ought to be

Jews should be able to join in with others in celebrating the birth of the greatest Jew that ever lived

maybe some of us Jews aren't able to celebrate because we see Christmas as a Jesus holiday and we haven't yet discovered that Jesus isn't prejudiced against us

others might be turned away by mistletoe, Macy's merchandising, or middle class merriment

maybe we could manage to feel like celebrating if Santa Claus wasn't crowding Jesus off the scene

after all, remember whose birthday it's supposed to be

some say: "Santa Claus is a capitalist agent who promotes the idea that happiness comes through things." He is certainly a salesman more than a saint

others say: "Santa is a communist agent because he dresses in red and only gives away things bought by other people"

Santa is no friend of truth. Have you ever noticed how scrupulously he avoids every mention of Jesus?

even if he has a beard Santa is not Jewish and such a nogoodnik should have no part in our celebration of Christmas as a Jewish holiday

all we need for Christmas or any joyous celebration is Jesus

some of us Jews join with the rest of the world to honor him -- he is the world's oldest living Jew -- since he is still alive

some of us Jews enjoy the idea that people from every race sing praise to the God of Israel because of Jesus

they read the Jewish Bible and honor our ancestors. People like Abraham, Moses, David, and Daniel are heroes because of Jesus

(some people even love one another and are good to their neighbors because of Jesus)

all of Jesus' apostles spoke with a Jewish accent

all of the writers of the New Testament are Jews

all of the teachings of Jesus like love, peace, caring, sharing, joyful worship and belonging to God's family are Jewish ideas and ideals

giving presents is a very Jewish thing to do

in fact God gave His people the very best Christmas present, His very own Son (see Isaiah 9:6 and Psalm 2)

what could be better or nicer than to give one's true self as a present to those one loves?

that's what God did in Jesus

He gave Himself so that you might have real joy

though we don't know exactly what day He was born, December 25th is as nice as any day and every day to celebrate his birth

if you knew what we know -- that Jesus is really the Messiah -- then you would agree that Christmas should be a Jewish holiday

May God give you much joy!

As always Moishe has been/is a blessing to me! Jesus/Y'shua is personal! "Awake may we watch with Christ, Asleep may we rest in His peace" Rest in 'His peace', Moishe, for you are 'only sleeping'!

God tabernacled with us - which means Immanuel. Sukkoth is the feast of tabernacles. So Jesus was most likely born during that time. I'm uncomfortable with the Dec. 25th holiday. If it was really Christian, would nearly the whole world celebrate it? Natan, you said "No one ever needed to die for our sins." When Adam sinned, death came to everyone. What were all those animal sacrifices for? What did they and the Passover lamb point forward to? God was clearly showing that blood had to be shed to atone for sins and animal sacrifices were not enough. They pointed forward to the true Sacrifice to come. Read Isaiah 53 and Daniel 9:26. They clearly say that Messiah would come, suffer, die and then rise from the dead. Rejecting the Atonement is rejecting an eternal God, so it's an eternal sin.

How wonderful it is to read these comments. One would really need to have a personal relationship with The Messiah, whose Name is Jesus Christ of Nazareth, to appreciate these thoughts. Thank you for the Truth!

Moishe; 3 things: Celebrating birthdays is a Pagan holiday. 2 christmas is a pagan time for holidays. 3 the whole christmas season and meaning are a an extrapolation of Sukkoth: 1 among christian it is the most joyful day of the year, a family reunion time, on the 8th days is the new year -compare to shemini atzeret; the 'stable' housing the manger is like a sukkah, thru the roof of the sukkah, you must see the star(s), sukkoth is dubbed 'Emmanuel'

No the gods who anti-christmas people use were at first not winter deities but summer. The leader of the roman empire of 274 taken different gods to be in the winter. The major egypt gods were summer gods. http://thriceholy.net/christmas.html

Jesus is not prejudiced towards you and your people, Moishe. He loved everyone and made it clear that no matter who you are, you are always welcome into his heart. I agree with you and believe that Jesus intended for Jews to love and follow him also and was in no way trying to compeltely take over God's role.

the 25th december is the day that the Sun returns its movement towards the northern hemisphere. On this day, Dionysius, Apollo and Mithras were born. Celebrate what you will.

Why would a Jew celebrate the birth of Jesus? What births to Jews celebrate as a whole people? Even within Christianity, it is Jesus' death and not his birth and that is more important. So why would a Jew celebrate the birth of someone in whose name more Jews have than for any other reason? And what difference should it make that the New Testament was written by Jews? Does this mean what they wrote was correct? Being Jewish does not make one infallible. Do you know what is a more Jewish thing to do than give presents? Not subscribe to the idea that God could ever be limited by mortal form. No one ever needed to die for our sins, for God would never damn someone to eternal torture for mistake made during a finite life.

First off I can not believe you can have a Jewish/Hebrew name and talk of such nonsense. Christmas should not and will NEVER be a Jewish Holiday because as you should know Jews do not recognize Jesus as the messiah or a prophet. I do not know of any Jews who would "join with the rest of the world to honor him (Jesus)..." because those who do that do not practice Judaism they practice Christianity!
