It began as a slogan coined by the media but soon became the rallying cry of a movement. Then, in 1973, “Jews for Jesus” became the name of the 501(c)(3) organization founded by Moishe Rosen. The concept wasn’t anything new—after all, Jewish people had believed in Jesus since, well, Jesus. But this small cadre of Jewish men and women was so passionate about the life-altering hope they’d discovered in Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, that they began pioneering new and creative ways to share about Jewish faith in Jesus on the streets and college campuses of San Francisco.
Today, we are an international, non-profit organization with branches in over 12 major cities, and our headquarters are in San Francisco. We have 280 staff and 125 volunteers serving worldwide. Our largest branch is in Israel, where we are the largest ministry of Hebrew-speaking native Israelis in the country.
Jews for Jesus exists to love and serve our communities and to support Jewish people who want to explore faith in Jesus. We employ three distinct approaches to meet diverse needs in our local contexts around the world:
We strive to bring hope into desperate situations as we serve holistically, meeting the immediate physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those suffering the ravages of war, poverty, homelessness, addiction, and trauma.
We aim to create open and safe environments for the Jewish community and spiritual life. Places like our urban coffee shops, art galleries, Shabbat dinners, local Bible studies, and emergency crisis centers provide opportunities to meet needs and build relationships.
We raise awareness about Jesus as the Jewish Messiah and faith in Jesus as a viable and thriving expression of Jewish life, engaging with people in dialogue in places like college campuses, urban centers, and social media.
